The Bulletin presents the results of an analytical and experimental research program aimed at providing methods for determining localized stresses in cylindrical and spherical pressure vessel nozzle connections subjected to various forms of external loadings. Solutions for elliptical and torispherical shells may also be obtained in the nozzle is in the spherical region of the head; for an elliptical head an equivalent crown radius may be used. Based on the work of P.P. Bijlaard performed in the 1950's and early 1960's, the Bulletin covers the sign conventions, parameters, calculation of stresses, nondimensional curves, and limitations on application for spherical and cylindrical shells and an abridged calculation for maximum stress in spherical shells. The WRC 107 procedure only provides stress computation in the shell, nozzle stress are not computed. This may lead to unconservative results for some shell and nozzle configurations.
