This work, sponsored by the Pressure Vessel Research Committee of the Welding Research Council, is an extension of the work previously completed and reported in Reference 1. There, the major concern was to establish a method for analyzing the displacement of a circular plate containing a large number of circular holes drilled in rectangular arrays. The analysis was accomplished by idealizing the perforated plate into an orthotropic circular plate having effective stiffness coefficients which contain the elastic and geometric parameters of the original perforated plate. The present paper, in effect, completes the task by obtaining a method for determining the stress distribution and particularly the peak stresses in the same circular plate containing a large number of circular holes with square and rectangular patterns of penetrations by use of the theory developed in Reference 1. The associated stiffness coefficients, which were calculated for many aspect ratios of rectangular pattern in Reference 2, are given in graphical form in Figs. 8 to 21.
