Description / Abstract: This part of the Standard defines the protocol suite used to provide to cellular radio telephone subscribers certain services requiring interaction between different cellular systems. These services are described, from a user’s perspective, in [TIA/EIA-664]. The intersystem operations’ functions and information flows associated with these services are described in the other parts of this Standard.

Specifically, the scope of this part of the Standard is:

1. To define the Mobile Application Part (MAP) signaling messages and parameters which support the intersystem operations functionality specified in the other parts of this Standard. This includes:

• the Intersystem Handoff functionality specified in Chapter 2,

• the Automatic Roaming functionality specified in Chapter 3, and

• the Intersystem OAM functionality specified in Chapter 4

The procedures associated with the processing of MAP signaling information are specified in Chapter 6.

To provide references to, and qualifications on, the service and protocol standards which are recommended in this Standard for the support of the MAP.
