Scope

This document focuses on managing the natural disaster impact on a facility s electrical systems. Guidance and advice is offered, from a facility s electric utility interface down through and including utilization systems. If a business already has a plan, this document may be used as a resource to assess and update that plan. It is recommended that this plan be integrated fully within a facility s overall emergency management procedure and company operations.

Purpose

This document is intended to provide guidance for managing the impact of natural disasters on key electrical equipment and systems in petroleum and chemical facilities. It outlines guidance on how to reduce the economic damage through preassessment risk evaluation, identification of mitigation approaches, and development of procedures for faster recovery.

Abstract

New IEEE Standard - Active.Recommendations and guidelines for managing natural disaster impact on key electrical facilities and systems in petroleum and chemical facilities are provided in order to minimize economic damage by pre-assessment risk evaluation of electrical facilities, by identification of mitigation techniques and system designs to minimize impact, and by outlining procedures for faster recovery of electrical systems after a natural disaster.
