Full Description

The focus of this powerpoint presentation is on adistribution system piping network, including the following:the type and level of detail needed in thehydraulic model, and impact of the hydraulic modelstructure on model maintenance efforts;attributes and topology features, and data update procedures that should be included in theGIS to allow cost-effective coordination withhydraulic modeling; and, tools that are available to perform cost-effectiveupdates. Three examples are provided and include the following: Example 1 - Skeletonized Model2008 update of 2001 model (AutoCad Base); Example 2 - Reduced/Skeletonized Model2008 Update of 2005 Model (GIS Base); and, Example 3 - All-pipes ModelGIS with Geometric Network. Presentation recommendations and conclusions include the following:develop geometric network and implement topology rulesinto GIS;establish a process whereby errors identified during themodeling process are reported back to, and corrected, inthe GIS;include a date stamp in GIS for latest edit/entry; existing off-the-shelf modeling software maintenance toolscan yield powerful, cost effective model maintenancestrategies; and,all-pipes models with one-to-one relationship to GIS areexpected to best facilitate model maintenance.
