This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation and control, and precursor removal and modification. Alternative disinfectants are presented along with trihalomethane (THM) removal, and a pilot tank aeration study. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:a simple diffused aeration can be used forTHM removal, especially for small orconsecutive systems, and hot-spots in largedistribution systems;biologically active carbon is effective inremoving haloacetic acids (HAAs); and, both technologies are most effective inwarmer months when higher DBP formationis expected. Includes tables, figures.
