This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting an outline of an evaluation of biological treatment and membrane bioreactors (MBRs). Hybrid Adsorption MembraneBiological Reactors (HAMBgRs) are presented, along with the application of HAMBgRs to Perchlorate Removal, and Perchlorate Treatment Process Options. Key questions addressed in the presentation for HAMBgR process include:how well does I-X resin attenuate shockloads and biological reactor upsets;how well does the I-X Resin regeneratebiologically;what is the effect of the resin on biologicaldegradation rates; and, what are the resin effects on membranefouling related toreduced fouling via foulant adsorption onresin and less dense cake structure? Presentation conclusions indicate that: HAMBgR process mitigates key weaknesses ofconventional biological and ion exchange treatmentsystems;stabilizes reactor performance under changingconditions;avoids brine generation and disposal issues;resin biological regeneration appears to besufficient for long-term operation;occasional brine cleaning may extend useful life;performance of an MBR can be enhanced by addingan ion exchange resin; and, higher net degradation rates.
