This poster paper presents a study that had the following objectives: design a photocatalytic reactor that can efficiently remove volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in the gas and aqueous phases simultaneously; and,overcome major difficulties to implement heterogeneous photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) in large scalesystems. Materials and methods are presented, along with results for the gas-phase, the aqueous-phase, and the gas and aqueous phase. Conclusions indicate that: toluene removal in the presence of contaminated air and water occurs mostly in the aqueous phase; the removal of toluene using TPOT can be adversely affected by a decrease in inlet aqueous phase concentration, increase in air to water ratio, decrease in gas phase, and increase in aqueous phase temperature; and, the main advantage of TPOT is its versatility.
