Introduces a knowledge retention model that aids in the implementation and preparation of a corporate knowledge retention program. Explains how the Microsoft Excel-based tool accompanying the model performs the following functions: 1) assesses current risk of experiential knowledge loss across organizational knowledge areas called Subject Matter Areas (SMA); 2) identifies at-risk individuals whose departure would result in the loss of considerable experiential knowledge; 3) provides a mechanism for effectively planning to transfer/retain the knowledge at risk; and 4) offers guidelines for implementing the plan.
