The impetus provided by the Water Pollution Control Act PL92-500, coupled with the new requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act, has spurred the development and implementation of new technologies for sludge disposal. What is needed is a cost effective and reliable means of sludge disposal that is also environmentally acceptable. Among the more promising new methods described here are alum reclamation, recalcining, and the use of alternate coagulants. Includes 1 reference, figures.
