Full Description

In current standard methods for determining residual chlorine titrametrically, temperature is not mentioned as a significant source of error. In this investigation, a quantitative analysis of the effect of temperature on the titrametric starch-iodine end point demonstrates that when low concentrations of residual chlorine are determined, the temperature of the sample solution must be kept below 20 C for maximum accuracy. Also presented in this paper is a proposed mechanism for the thermal decolorization of the blue starch-iodine complex. Includes 24 references, figures.
