Full Description

This article describes a study of uranium removal from influent waters at 20 municipal water treatment plants. The plants use various combinations of conventional treatment processes such as coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and chlorination. The uranium concentration in the raw waters ranged from 0.01 ug/L (the detection limit) to approximately 16 ug/L, whereas that in treated waters ranged from 0.01 ug/L to approximately 7 ug/L. For a given plant, however, the uranium concentration in the treated water was not always less than that in the raw water. The effects of pH and chemical alum dosages on uranium removal are discussed. Includes 25 references, tables.
