Full Description

Denver, Colorado's new Foothills water treatment complex is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains southwest of the city so that more than enough electric energy can be generated to operate the treatment plant once a hydroturbine is installed at the plant early in 1984. This article discusses energy efficiency procedures and devices utilized at the Foothills complex. Surplus electricity will be available at certain times of the year for resale to the local electric utility. In addition, the elevation of the treatment plant allows gravity feed to most of the city's distribution system, saving an estimated $1.1 million annually in pumping costs. Includes figures.
