This article provides experimental data on the structural behavior and stiffness characteristics in tension and in bending of ductile-iron pipeline joints. Tests were performed on 100-, 150-, 200-, and 250-mm diameter pipeline joints under buried, semiburied, and unburied conditions. The linear and nonlinear behavior of the joints was observed, including large joint displacements and joint slippage. Graphs of the pull-out force versus joint displacement and of bending moment versus joint rotation are presented based on test data. Analysis of the data on pull-out tests showed a common pattern, as did that on bending tests. Includes 24 references, tables, figures.
