Full Description

The US Army Corps of Engineers has developed a number of improved methods for addressing a variety of water supply problems. The MAPS (Methodology for Areawide Planning Studies) computer program, which can be used for preparing preliminary design and cost estimates for pipelines, pumping stations, dams, water treatment plants, well fields, surface water intakes, storage tanks, tunnels, and open channels, for selecting optimum pipe sizes, and for estimating the cost and effectiveness of implementing water conservation measures, is described. Nomograms and a microcomputer program for internal corrosion control and information to assist in evaluating water distribution operation and maintenance are discussed. The bibliography provides a list of reports and manuals applicable to the drinking water industry. Includes 30 references.
