Full Description

Several bromoform and iodoform formation potential tests were evaluated for use as surrogates for trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP). Although these tests are generally faster and simpler than the THMFP tests, some were very difficult to perform, and others gave inaccurate results. Based on analyses of raw and treated drinking waters, the 2-h standard iodoform formation potential test appeared to be the most useful. This test proved to be a better surrogate for THMFP than dissolved organic carbon, and it was equally as accurate as UV absorbance. Note that the figures that accompany the article are incorrect; corrections appear in the September 1991 Journal AWWA on pages 10 and 12. Includes 24 references, tables, figures.
