Full Description

This standard covers nine pressure classifications of type I and type II asbestos cement pipe, 18 in. through 42 in. (450 mm through 1,050 mm) in diameter, for underground installation to convey water in water supply service systems. Asbestos cement transmission pipe is to be used in pipe systems having relatively predictable flows and few appurtenances, which permit reasonable hydraulic analysis, including those for surge pressures. Section 1 discusses scope, purpose and application. Sections 2 and 3 list references and definitions. Section 4 discusses requirements, including permeation, materials, design and fabrication. Section 5 discusses verification, including inspection, physical test requirements, retests and rejection, test for uncombined calcium hydroxide, and test records. Section 6 discusses marking, preparation for shipment, and affidavit of compliance. The major revisions in this edition of ANSI/AWWA C402-95 include the following: the format has been changed to AWWA standard style; the acceptance clause (Sec. I.C) and the definitions of parties (Sec. 3) have been revised to approved wording; the information formerly provided in the forward under Sec. II.C, which included a discussion on criteria for selecting the type of asbestos cement pipe, was deleted from this standard and moved to the forward of ANSI/AWWA C403; and, the definition of "Inspector" has been deleted from Sec. 3 and the term "purchaser's representative" has been substituted throughout the text.
