This year, Water For People (WFP) celebrates is 10th anniversary. Established in1991, WFP, a private, nonprofit international development organization, wasfounded to help impoverished people obtain safe drinking water. Since then, WFPhas improved the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people bysupporting approximately 400 sustainable drinking water, sanitation, and hygieneprojects in some 40 developing countries worldwide. The milestone of its 10thanniversary sees WFP shifting its focus from "bricks and mortar" constructionprojects to more complete program modules that include capacity building,training, and education. Its objective is to strengthen communities andprofessional associations so they are able to sustain and maintain projects andinitiate new efforts on their own. WFP is looking at expanding its program toother countries and solidifying and expanding the organization's financial base. Includes 6 references, figure.
