Full Description

The City of Phoenix has a significant portfolio of water resources to meet the demandsof its growing population. The City's three main water sources include:the Salt and Verde River Watershed;the Central Arizona Project (CAP); and, groundwater.Supply availability from these sources varies from year to year due to fluctuations inprecipitation, limited reservoir capacity, unresolved water right claims, water conveyancesystem reliability, and reductions in groundwater production capacity due tocontaminants or aging wells. The Salt River Project (SRP) and CAP sources provide raw water to the City's five WTPs: Verde; Val Vista;Squaw Peak; Deer Valley; and, Union Hills. Except for the Union Hills WTP, all plantsare supplied by the SRP canal system. Union Hills WTP receives raw water from theCAP canal. The following sections present a summary of the raw water quality for thesefacilities and briefly discuss background related to the canal systems that deliver thesewaters to the Phoenix metropolitan area. Data for the Verde WTP are not presentedhere, as this plant is not intended to provide potable water for the City after 2005. Includes tables, figure.
