This slide presentation outlines information on the concept of Crime Prevention ThroughEnvironmental Design (CPTED) and its three central tenets: Natural Access Control;Natural Surveillance; and,Territorial Reinforcement. The presentation lists the elements of a more secure site layout, and gives four examples of how CPTED was used when designing new buildings, a new site, and a new facility. The presentation lists 10 easy ways to improved security that include: separate site areas that serve private andpublic functions;locate parking areas away from criticalfacilities;use natural means to route employees,deliveries and visitors to their destinations;consider employee functions and groupwork areas accordingly;limit employee site access;use "Exit Only" doors as much as possible;use employees to surveil critical assetsduring the course of their duties;use architectural and landscaping featuresto provide natural adversarial delay;consider line-of-site, adversarial hidingplaces, landscaping and lighting during sitelayout; and, emphasize policies and procedures oversecurity hardware.
