This powerpoint presentation outlines a study in Montreal to compare sampling methods for lead an copper monitoring at the consumer's tap. A project timeline is provided, along with Public notification and LSLreplacement program, Present Regulations and Guidelines on Lead inDrinking Water in Canada, Review of lead regulations, Types of Lead at the Tap, Sources of Dissolved and ParticulateLead in Service, and Sampling protocols. Specifics of the 2006 Montreal lead sampling project are outlined, and conclusions were that: enhanced digestion did not reveal more particulate lead but requiredmore effort;Volumes of LSL and internal premise plumbing vary even for similarhouses; Maximum dissolved Pb concentration not in 1st L sample, 2nd L and 1min flush can be higher;no obvious predictor for lead at first flush or after full flush althoughlength, volume and contact time in SL and LSL are listed;Significant particulate lead is a rare event but almost always in firstflush, minor background levels are present;30 minutes stagnation protocol relatively easy to implement; and,Ongoing investigations on causes/sources of lead particles andremediation.
