The final Ground Water Rule (GWR)relies on states to discern decision criteria essential torule elements. Currently, no states have primacy for theGWR, and less than two years remain for systems toprepare for the initial federal compliance deadline.Drinking water utilities seeking to comply with thetriggered monitoring provisions of the GWR must beinvolved in the process to determine whether treatmentis a preferred compliance strategy or to discern whatpreparations are necessary in anticipation of the firstround of sanitary surveys, where the authority providedby the GWR is in effect.
