This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of Cyanobacteria in the Murray River of South Australia (SA), and rainfall and inflow into the Murray River. Water quality issues of the river and wetlands are presented, along with metal and nutrient releases from sediments. Information on phosphorus release and anabaena is provided, and a river flow managementstrategy for control of cyanobacteria is presented. Management strategies are presented for Tasmania, Sydney, and Victoria. Implications of climate change/droughtfor Australian Water Authorities include the following: SA fast track nine treatment plants along the Murray River;Sydney Water has implemented strategies for themanagement of blue-green algae, including powdered activated carbon (PAC) dosingfacilities and investigating future strategies such asozone granular activated carbon (GAC); Tasmania and Victoria, higher level of monitoring, PACdosing facilities; and,Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia,South Australia have built or are building desalinationplants, and Victoria and Tasmania are considering the option.
