With the planned phasing out of R-22, CO₂ is getting a new look as a refrigerant for supermarket refrigeration. CO₂ as a two-phase secondary coolant showed several advantages compared to the single-phase salts. This article explains these benefits along with the main disadvantages of CO₂—higher operating pressures and availability of components.
