Full Description

It is common practice to operate cooling coils below the dew point of the air being cooled, even when sensible cooling is the primary objective. Low temperature operation reduces surface area requirements and makes compact designs possible but the resulting dehumidification complicates both analytical and experimental investigations and has resulted in most design procedures being approximate analogies to simpler systems.

The objective of this study was to analyze the performance of a simplified model of the common continuouslyfinned evaporator in which the Reynolds number has the same meaning as in the real evaporator but in which there are no hydrodynamic or thermal influences due to the presence of refrigeration tubing.
