Full Description

Over the years ASHRAE has sponsored many projects concerned with human comfort and room air diffusion. A series of such projects was initiated at Kansas State University in 1965 to determine the factors which effect air diffusion in rooms using ventilating ceilings, circular ceiling diffusers, high-side wall grilles, sill grilles, 1ight troffer diffusers and slot diffusers. These projects resulted in a number of papers publ ished by ASHRAE which indicate that the air diffusion performance index (ADPI) is a sensitive, valid single-number rating index for air diffusion performance (1-8). The procedure for determining this index has been simplified so that it can be used as a manufacturer1s specification of performance as well as a design criterion.
