Full Description

The instrumentation utilized in HVAC applications used to be called: commercial quality. This was the code word for the inexpensive and inaccurate devices, which this industry could afford. The use of process control quality instruments was limited to a few critical loops, if used at all because of cost considerations.

During the last decade the cost-gap between commercial and process control quality systems has disappeared. This development removed the last obstacle which was preventing the HVAC industry from taking full advantage of the state of the art in instrumentation and control. Advanced and optimized controls can cut the cost of building operations in half and this paper gives some examples of the control strategies to be used towards that end.
