Ternary nitrate mixtures represent a new class of high-temperature working fluids for chemical heat pumps. Water is the refrigerant and the solute is composed of 53 wt % LiNO3, 28 wt % KNO3, and 19 wt % NaNO3. The fluid mixture is a competitor to existing chemical heat pump fluids and operates up to 260C (500 F) without causing corrosion problems. In this paper, polynomial expressions using least square fit techniques are developed that correlate experimental vapor-liquid-equilibrium (VLE) and specific enthalpy-concentration data for the aqueous nitrate mixture. These equations are necessary for computer simulation of heat pump cycles.
