Describes the developmental considerations for a commercially-viable, knowledge-based monitor for HVAC equipment. Looks at the development of a real-time embedded expert system for evaluating the performance of a HVAC unit at any point in time and for the automatic diagnosis of potential fault conditions. Identifies and discusses some of the considerations addressed in the design of the product and summarises several case studies.
