This is the eighth article in our special series to commemorate a century of innovation in the HVACR arts and sciences.

This is the second of two articles reviewing the evolution of modern office building design and the impact of air conditioining. The first article focusd on the period from the mid-19th century, when offices emerged as a dsitinct category of building, to the advent of fully air-conditioned office buildings in the 1930s.

This article addresses the late 1930s, the war years, and the high-rise boom of the post-war era.
