Full Description

This addendum to ASHRAE Standard 105-2007 revisesthe definition of "Gross Floor Area" of a building. The definitionchosen reflects a general agreement among a numberof interested ASHRAE parties and the Standard ProjectCommittee 105 for what will be referenced within a numberof ASHRAE standards. This definition is for use in energyanalysis work and does not necessarily reflect the exact definitionused by other organizations.

During development, there was significant discussionconcerning if and how to include parking garages. Althoughthere are a number of enclosed and even semiheated parkinggarages, the decision was that permitting parking garagearea to be included in the calculation of building floor areawould skew the reporting of building energy use intensitywhen presented in terms of energy use per square foot offloor area. Alternatives for incorporating parking garageenergy into the relevant equations are being examined by thecommittee.
